Five Power Foods to Boost Your Overall Health
Working hard all day without paying attention to your body can lead to fatigue and even illness, particularly if you don’t lead a healthy lifestyle. Eating on the hop, not having enough time to get to the gym and sitting at a desk in a stuffy office all day eventually takes its toll. What you eat is extremely important so if you’re finding that the cooler days aren’t helping with feeling great, perhaps take a look at your diet and ring the changes. At Brisk Catering in Melbourne’s CBD, we spend lots of our time developing new and exciting dishes that are designed for staff and clients at offices and businesses in the area. Our dishes contain many healthy ingredients; you’ll love our quality meats, fresh fish and home-grown fruit and vegetables. We also use plenty of healthy grains and seeds too which you’ll find on our extensive menu. All of the above contain vital vitamins and minerals that are integral to better health.
Here are five power foods to boost your overall health. Why not let us deliver direct to your office door if you’re catering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or an event after work?
Add an apple a day to your diet. It’s great for protecting the heart and helps you stay regular! Additionally, because it’s high in quercetin, it improves lung capacity and cushions the joints so if you do workout, an apple helps you to get the best out of your session. Our Brisk cold press juices include an apple variety – perfect for getting your daily apple!
We just love avocado. Not only is it delicious, it’s an excellent source of essential fatty acids – what’s known as “good fat”. Avocados are renowned for lowering cholesterol so they’re good for you if you have high blood pressure. They’re also a great option for diabetics. Avocados are good for the skin too, keeping it blemish-free and smooth. We have lots of avocado on our menu. You’ll find it in our sandwiches and wraps (of which we do gluten-free too) and in our lunch-boxes, particularly the CEO variety.
Fruit is full of anti-oxidants which are needed to fight off free-radicals (pollutants in the atmosphere that include smoke, the sun and industrial fumes for example) and boost cell renewal. Blueberries are high in vitamin c and a great source of anthocyanins. They’re needed to fight against cancer and protect your heart. A handful of blueberries a day is good for memory too. You’ll find blueberries in our yoghurt pot, the perfect breakfast to start your day.
Broccoli is good for bones because it’s full of sulforaphane. Not only does it strengthen your bones, it’s known to prevent eyesight deterioration, control blood pressure and keep your heart nice and healthy. We use lots of broccoli in our Open Wonton (made with broccoli and wasabi peas). Alternatively, why not try a healthy salad, something like our Brisk broccoli, parmesan, bean sprouts, snow peas and Wasabi pea rocket salad (with French dressing).
Carrots are known for keeping eyes healthy and that’s because they’re high in beta carotene and Vitamin A. However, did you know that carrots are also good for protecting your heart and fighting off cancer? We use carrot in our quinoa, beetroot and carrot salad and in our winter-warming lentil, carrot and coriander soup. If you want something sweeter, we also use it in our fabulously flavoursome carrot cake.
